Social Media Strategy is like a box of social media posts
We all know the quote ‘Life is like a box of Chocolates’. At least any movie buff would – it is probably the most famous quote from ‘Forrest Gump’. Which is why you might be wondering what I mean by Social Media Strategy is like a box of social media posts.
When Sarah Wood – The Chocolate lady inadvertently challenged me to look at chocolate and marketing and figure out an analogy, the only thing I could think of was that quote!
And to give it a little more background, marketing to me starts with your client and how your marketing strategy works for your business. It should include your social media strategy, spelling out the channels and the tactics that bring your customers to your digital door.
Therefore, If marketing strategy is like the recipe for the most wonderful chocolates, then it makes sense that social media strategy is like the box of chocolates holding the lovely treats inside – the social media posts.
Social Media Strategy is the box of chocolates
So let's indulge in a sweet analogy to explain why a small business might want to use a social media strategy, comparing it to a box of chocolates.
Firstly, imagine your small business as a delightful box of chocolates, each piece representing a unique product or service you offer. Just like a box of chocolates, your small business has a lot to offer, and it's important to showcase these offerings in a way that makes people want to dig in. It is like that picture of all the wonderful chocolates inside that box, showing you the flavours and you can then pick the one that suits you the best.
Now, picture social media as the beautiful, handcrafted box that showcases your chocolates. It's the perfect way to present your business to the world, enticing and inviting potential customers to open it up and explore what's inside.
6 reasons why to have a social media strategy
Here's why a social media strategy is like the wrapping that makes your business even more tempting:
- Variety: A box of chocolates comes in various flavours and shapes, appealing to different tastes. Social media allows you to share a diverse range of content, from product photos and videos to informative blog posts, customer testimonials, and behind-the-scenes glimpses. This variety keeps your audience engaged and interested. Just like the variety in your favourite box of chocolates!
- Personalisation: Just as people have their favourite chocolate types, customers have their preferences too. With a social media strategy, you can tailor your content to cater to your specific target audience. By understanding their needs and interests, you can create content that resonates and connects with them. I personally like the nutty ones, but you might prefer ones with caramel.
- Surprise and Delight: Part of the joy of opening a box of chocolates is the element of surprise. Social media allows you to surprise your audience with special promotions, giveaways, or sneak peeks. This sense of anticipation can keep your followers coming back for more. Just like s surprising combo of chilli and chocolate – you wouldn’t think it's tasty – but it works. And you keep wanting to take another bite because it wasn’t what you expected!
- Interaction: Social media is a two-way street. It is called social for a reason, and it is just like sharing chocolates with friends. It's a platform where you can engage with your customers, answer their questions, and build relationships. The more you interact, the stronger your brand becomes.
- Sharing: People often share chocolates with their loved ones. When you create shareable and engaging content on social media, your audience becomes your brand ambassadors, sharing your posts with their friends and followers, extending your reach organically.
- Timing Matters: Just like you don't want your chocolates to melt in the sun, you must be mindful of when and how often you post on social media. Timing can significantly impact the effectiveness of your strategy. Or, putting it another way, you only go for the chocolate when you feel like a treat. When posting on social media, you want to post when people are there to engage with you.
At the heart of it, a well-thought-out social media strategy is like the beautiful wrapper of a box of chocolates, attracting and delighting your audience. It's a way to make your small business stand out, engage with your customers, and build a loyal tribe.
So, open up your "box of chocolates" and let the world savour the sweet goodness of your business through a well-executed social media strategy.
