As we approach a day many will dedicate to hunting for bargains, it’s vital to remember the incredible local businesses right on our doorstep.
To turn Black Friday to Green Friday, let’s choose to support our community by shopping locally. Not only does it allow us to find great deals, but it also helps sustain the livelihoods of those who have poured their hearts and souls into their businesses.
Why Shopping Local Matters
In the current climate, supporting local businesses is more important than ever. Small businesses are the backbone of our economy, creating jobs and fostering community spirit. In Ireland, small enterprises account for over 99% of all businesses, employing nearly 1 million people. When you shop locally, approximately 67% of the money spent stays in the community, supporting local jobs, services, and initiatives.
Dundalk Chamber of Commerce Shop Local Initiative
The Dundalk Chamber of Commerce has been instrumental in promoting local shopping through its Shop Local initiative right here in Dundalk. By encouraging residents to support local retailers, the Chamber aims to strengthen the local economy and enhance the vibrancy of the town. According to recent statistics, every €10 spent in a local shop generates an estimated €25 for the local economy. This multiplier effect highlights how crucial it is to think local this Green Friday.
Other Chambers around the country also have a shop local scheme and they are doing their bit to ensure the hard-earned money made locally, stays locally, supporting the businesses and jobs in that area.
